Looking at the past through my Grandmother's eyes. I was born in Oldham in 1990, as the cotton mills were on there way out, at one time Oldham was a major center for textile manufacturing, particularly cotton spinning. Twenty years ago Oldhams skyline was filled with mills. Today only the remains of the buildings stand and the stories from the workers. My Grandmother last worked in a cotton mill in 1992 leaving the job to look after me throughout the day, I have grown up with tales of her times in the mill, the hard graft and long days, the pride she took in her job and the life long friends she made through it. These photographs only show a glimpse into the mass of information and work I undertook during this project, I interviewed not only my Grandmother but several other mill workers, I was given a glimpse into the life of a mill worker through their stories, I tracked and researched the several mills my Grandmother worked in, and visited there empty shells. I made contact with the last mill she worked in and gained permission to take my Grandmother back and serve her tea while she reflected on her time in the cotton mills.
