“Rest breeds rust.” I found rusty machine parts in an abandoned mill that had been closed since 1959, there were several of the rusty clogs laid around on the floor, I was instantly attracted to them due to there interesting shape and colour. After sitting and looking at them for a few days I laid a piece of wet fabric over one and left it for a couple of days and to my delightful surprise the rust had transferred onto the fabric. I went on to repeat this process several times on a variety of different fabrics, I was never in control of how the rust transferred 90% of the outcome was left to chance to regain an aspect of control and to enhance elements of the transfers I carefully picked sections of the print to stitch into I used a variety of threads in complimentary colours so the prints would stand out.
